Mayans Class Structure
The class structure of the Mayans was both very different and similar to the Aztecs , and the Incas. In the Mayans class struture there was a king or High priest(Halach uinic meaning true man) was at the top of the pyramid.In the Kings postion the ruler was able o pass down the postion to a son. His power of rule was very large this postion was consider a hereditary position. In this class stuck urge there is a total of five classes in the Mayan society.
The next postion in the social pyrimad was The noble and priests. They were the only ones in the social pyramid that knew how to read and write. The nobles powers served as officials, and oversaw the administration of the state. They would gather the taxes, food supplies, and labor for construction. The nobles usually act like generals to the peasant armies that fought in wars. In the other hand the priests had inherited there postions from there fathers. They would do rituals , offered sacrifices, and foretold the future. They were comsulted for the best going for battle. They were also mathematicians , astronomers, and healers to the people.
Next on the pyrimad was the Merchants and the Artisans. They were really important for farming, trade and crafts they were usually function by the Merchants and Artisans. The Mayas were accomplished traders. They would import valuable products from the high lands.The Artisans on the other hand would make a wide verity of objects, many were created as a tribute to the gods. They created a lot of objects for temples and decorative designs on the palace walls.
